Title: The role of business model in disruptive manufacturing innovation!/image/AntonioMaffeiBW.jpgAbstract: This work provides a historical overview of the concept of business model and introduces its modern embodiment as driver for innovation. Generic and high level manufacturing system requirements, such as system agility and sustainability, are usually approached with mid-term applied research efforts that target results on medium TRL. These technologies must then be brought to application through more focused research efforts aimed at solving specific industrial problems. Disruptive technologies are not always able to follow this ideal pattern and are often overlooked in favour of less efficient/effective sustaining ones. The concept of business model will then be used to identify the requirements and suggest a way to the market for disruptive manufacturing technologies and thus prevent such a conservative attitude.

Presenter: Dr. Antonio Maffei, CIRP research affiliate.
Affiliation: KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Short Biography:
Antonio Maffei
was born in Benevento, Italy, in 1982. He received the B.E. and the M.E. degree in industrial engineering from the University of Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, in 2004 and 2007 respectively.
